Hiking Trials

There are a variety of walking trails in beautiful mountain surrounds and amongst vineyards of the gorgeous Cape Winelands. From a short walk to a lengthy 10km hike – Paarl Tourism will give you all the information you need to enjoy the peace and serenity that this region has to offer.

Historic Walks

The Cape Winelands are famous for many things unrelated to wine. Paarl Tourism will inform you on the many historic walks in one of the oldest and most gorgeous towns in the Western Cape. Take a stroll along the historic oak lined Main Road, where you’ll find the old Thatched Roof Church - one of the oldest and most historic churches in South Africa that is still in use. At the Afrikaans Language Museum, one can learn the origin of the Afrikaans Language. The Paarl Museum has a collection of Cape antiques, photographs, and documents depicting the development of the town of Paarl.

Bird Sanctuary

The Cape Winelands abound with nature and a peaceful paradise awaits you at the Paarl Bird Sanctuary. With over 140 different species of birds and waterfowl to appreciate, you will be entertained from the second you arrive. Please remember to bring along your binoculars and camera for added enjoyment.

Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve

The Western Cape Province is home to the Paarl Mountain, where magnificent views of the entire Paarl Valley and Cape Winelands can be seen. Take a hike by foot or mountain bike, climb the massive granite boulders, or visit the Millwater Flower Garden, where many different species of Fynbos and Protea can be seen. You could always catch a trout or bass for dinner or enjoy a picnic!

At the Ikhwezi Community Centre, the needs of disadvantaged children are looked after. There is also an Arts and Crafts centre where one can buy handmade products. From Cape Town or Cape Town International Airport take the N1 highway to Paarl. Take exit 55, turn left, drive 2,5km. Oak Tree Lodge is on the left opposite the Vineyard Shopping Centre and KWV Headquarters.
